Spring Coloring Pages: A sunny picnic coloring page, with a checkered blanket, fresh fruit, and a frosty pitcher of lemonade--the colors can be detailed, fun-loving.
It is a welcoming picture that features a picnic blanket on lush grass with neat checks that set off a comfy scene of summereers: a glass pitcher of lemonade full of ice and lemon wedges, two tumblers that have striped straws and a picture of mixed fruit, some wedges of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, apple slices and a peach with a leafy stem. Instead, a wicker basket and napkins bring a new texture and daisies and clover appear through the grass. There is a great deal to color--the folds of the blanket and the stitching in the blanket, the gleam of an ordinary glass with its minute drops of condensation, the pits of the fruit and the rind, the weave in the basket, the cast shadows of the woodwork, the shadows all soft and anchoring everything. The open forms (blanket blocks, sky/grass spaces) mix against defined line work on the fruit and the glass to make the signs inviting to both languishers of lines and beginners.
How to Colour:
put down the background first: a very pale sky or leave white for the high light; paint the grass in a mixture of 2-3 greens (cool olive in any dip, spring green mid-tones and yellow-green backlit tips) and apply brief strokes as the blades. Select two blanket hues (standard red-white or blue-white); leave the foundation light, then darken at crevices and in the underside of objects--round the checks a bit to hug the lines of clothing dress. Lemonade Wash a pale lemon yellow, darker toward the edges of glasses and add a touch of cool gray/blue to ice cubes; make ice cubes with a touch of cool gray/blue; leave the fine vertical white bands as highlights in the glasses and add a few tiny white gel-pen dots as condensation. Slices of citrus fruit are sunny yellow (lemons) or orange (add-in optional) and darker on the rind edge, to leave the centers paler. Fruit tips: watermelon--plush pink/red center, fine line over white pith, stripe green rind, shiny black seeds with tiny pearl points; strawberries--crimson mid, darken around seeds, add warm tint and fresh green tops; blueberries--blue-violet with hint of pale bloom blot; grapes--mid purple/green, brighten to shine one side; apples--red or green and a bright curved highlight; peach-soft coral with a tint of gold. Dark lines in the weave, add warm browns and ochres, to make up the basket; add cast shadows under fruit, glasses, and basket to anchor it. Broad flats (sky, blanket) go on markers, gradients and textures (fruit skins, wicker) on colored pencils, ice glints, glass edges, and seed highlights with a white gel pen-add one color of accent across napkins or straws to unify the entire palette.
