: The Dusky shark (Carcharhinus obscurus) is a large species of requiem shark that is found in tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. Known for their dusky gray coloration and high dorsal fin, these sharks can grow up to 14 feet in length and weigh over 800 pounds. Dusky sharks are slow-growing and late-maturing, with females only reaching sexual maturity at around 20 years of age. Due to their low reproductive rate, overfishing has led to a significant decline in Dusky shark populations, resulting in their classification as "Vulnerable" by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Conservation efforts are underway to protect these sharks and ensure their survival in the future.
